Have you been brushing and flossing your teeth daily? If so, that’s great. But have you also been having regularly scheduled dental cleanings, about once every six months? If not, you may be leaving yourself open to developing gum disease. If you would like to see our Peekskill dentist to see if your teeth and gums are healthy, contact us at Montrose Dental Associates for a comprehensive dental exam.
At Montrose Dental Associates, our expert and highly-respected dentist is Dr. Daniel J. Lyu. At our practice we provide the highest-level of care. Our dentist specializes in preventive, cosmetic, restorative and implant dentistry. If you have gum disease, our dentist will be able to identify this and provide treatment to get your gums back on the road to recovery. During a dental exam, our Peekskill dentist will be able to tell if your gums are healthy, if you have gingivitis – early gum disease, or have a serious problem with advanced gum disease. If you have gingivitis our dentist may well recommend that you simply have a few dental cleanings over the next few months to get your gums back into good health.
However, if our Peekskill dentist sees that you are developing serious gum disease, his recommendations will be different. The first course of action to treat gum disease is often to have a periodontal treatment call scaling and root planing. This treatment is performed in our dental office using local anesthesia. The patient remains totally comfortable during this procedure. During scaling and root planing, our dentist will deep clean behind your gums to remove all tartar, plaque and bacteria that has gathered there and created an infection. If a lot of bone has been destroyed, it may be recommended that you have alternate types of gum surgery. After scaling and root planing, your gums will be examined in several months to see if they are responding well to treatment. Hopefully, the deep pockets in your gums will have become smaller and the treatment is being effective. At that point it may be recommended that the treatment is repeated to further help the gums get back to good health. If you would like to see our dentist regarding gum disease treatment or for a comprehensive dental exam, contact our office today.
